Inclusion Criteria:
To qualify for participation in this study, individuals must meet the following minimum criteria (additional criteria may also apply):

• Diagnosis of type 1 diabetes within the past 3 months
• Aged 18–30 years old
• Willing to use acceptable forms of contraception

Note: the study will open for younger individuals in the coming months.

Exclusion Criteria:
Individuals meeting any of the criteria below will not be eligible to participate in the study. Additional exclusion criteria may apply.

• Positive for HIV, tuberculosis, or hepatitis B at screening
• History of any significant heart disease, such as congestive heart failure or arrhythmia
• Use of glucocorticoids in the 28 days prior to study entry; or topical use of glucocorticoids
• Current use of diabetes medications (other than insulin) such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or amylin
• Liver dysfunction
• Kidney disease
• Pregnancy or plan to become pregnant
