Inclusion Criteria:
To qualify for participation in this study, individuals must meet the following minimum criteria:

• Diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (according to ADA criteria) within the past 6 weeks.
• Male or female 8–30 years old
• Body weight of at least 25 kg
• Insulin autoantibodies, assessed within 10 days of any insulin use; anti- GAD autoantibodies; or anti-ICA512/IA-2 autoantibodies.

Exclusion Criteria:
Individuals meeting any of the criteria below will not be eligible to participate in the study. Additional exclusion criteria may apply.

• Asthma
• Prior participation in a clinical trial that could potentially affect diabetes or immunologic status
• Participation in an investigational clinical trial within the last 6 weeks before enrollment
• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
